Minor damage following Hwy. 10 fire

Metro Wire Staff

The Stevens Point Dairy Queen is temporarily closed following a fire on Dec. 22.

Metro Fire crews responded to the restaurant, 5398 Hwy. 10 East, at 8:43 a.m. Firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover, and Hull were on the scene, and Stevens Point police assisted with traffic control. Stevens Point paramedics also responded to the scene as a precaution.

SPFD Lt. David Briggs said the fire started in the hood system of the restaurant’s kitchen, and crews did find flames coming from the roof when they arrived. Employees activated the ANUSL, a chemical system designed to extinguishing grease fires, and evacuated the building.

The estimated value of the damages was not immediately known.

Crews were on scene for about an hour. No injuries were reported.
