MILC to hold first adaptive ice skating event

Metro Wire Staff

Midstate Independent Living Choices will present its first adaptive ice skating event on March 25.

The event is free and open to anyone with disabilities and their caregivers. The Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association will provide special hockey sleds, walkers, and wheelchairs for individuals who have difficulty staking, or are unable to skate but still want to get on the ice. Volunteers will be available to assist participants with skating.

Alex Lena, an independent living consultant with MILC, said the goal is to provide access to ice skating for people with disabilities who previously thought their participation wouldn’t be possible.

Registration is encouraged by Lena at 715-344-4210 ext. 232 or e-mail at [email protected].

The special skating event will be held at K.B. Willett Ice Arena, 1000 Minnesota Ave. in Stevens Point on March 25, from 4 to 7 p.m.

MILC is a consumer-controlled, non-profit, non-residential organization serving 11 counties in Wisconsin. Its mission is “Working for persons with disabilities toward empowerment to make informed choices.” For more information visit www.milc-inc.org.
