Mid-State Technical College alum and longtime Board of Directors member Lynneia Miller has been chosen by the college as its 2021 Distinguished Alumni.

Miller earned her Mid-State Leadership Development associate degree from Mid-State in 2008 while working full-time for Marshfield Clinic Health System. She then went on to pursue more advanced degrees, culminating in an MBA from Upper Iowa University in 2013.

“Since graduating, Lynneia has gone on to forge an impressive career of service to Mid-State Technical College and the mission of technical college education statewide,” said Mid-State president, Dr. Shelly Mondeik. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to honor her achievements and dedication with the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award.”

While earning her degrees, Miller’s work for Marshfield Clinic grew to include operations manager/stewardship for Development and eventually continuing medical education specialist for the Division of Education, where she still serves today. Her work has included facilitating annual training for incoming physicians and advanced practice clinicians (APC), coordinating accreditation for physician continuing medical education (CME) activities, and managing physician educational events throughout Marshfield Clinic Health System.

“Education just feels good, feels right,” she said of her tendency to seek out and thrive in these roles.

Miller has also embraced opportunities to give back and change lives through education. She has served continuously on the Board of Directors of Mid-State Technical College since 2009, including four years as secretary, two years as vice-chair, and two years as chair. She has also served on a variety of Board committees, represented the Board at graduation, and helped conduct the college’s search for its current president.

“I found my confidence and passion for education later in life and only after earning my degree from Mid-State—I am a living example of the college’s mission to transform lives through the power of education,” Miller said. “The support and encouragement I have received from Mid-State from day one and every day since has [sic] made an enormous difference in my life and career. Giving back to support the college and technical education came as easily as my choice to attend Mid-State when I first embarked on this journey.”

Each year, Mid-State confers the Distinguished Alumni Award to a truly outstanding alum who has demonstrated accomplishments in his or her professional field, community involvement, support for the technical college system, and a commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning. The award also includes nomination by the college for the statewide Wisconsin Technical College District Boards Association Distinguished Alumni Award.

The winner of the state-level award will be selected from among the nominations submitted by all 16 colleges in the Wisconsin Technical College System and announced in October.
