Michael “Mickey” White

Michael “Mickey” White, Stevens Point, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021 at the Tomah VA hospital surrounded by his family.

Mickey was born on June 18, 1949, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, son of Donald White and Maureen Shipway.
Mickey graduated from PJ Jacob’s High School in 1967.

Mickey was a man who wore many hats (literally). He proudly served in the US Coast Guard for 4 years. Within that time, he grew a love for lighthouses and Lake Superior (he would call it Lake Gitche-Gumee). He was stationed at several lighthouses, his favorite was Eagle Harbor Light and Isle Royale Light.

Mickey loved hunting and fishing and being up north. Some of his best memories were at the “6 pack” cabin in Mercer, is. Many good times, laughs, and memories were made at the legendary “6 pack”.
He loved boating anywhere and any place, and being on the water with his family and friends. He would refer to himself as “Captain Mick” despite his navigation and safety skills. But he sure could tie a heck of a knot, as a coastie would.

For someone who always wanted to be a cowboy, Mickey sure lived to make and live by his own rules. He would often refer to rules as “suggestions.”

Mickey was a salesman at Duralum Flooring until he proudly retired in 2014. He sure knew how to seal a deal.

Family to Mickey was his number one priority, he loved his wife and daughters, and learned great patience, hence the rapid hair loss. At times he was overprotective, but it was all in good love. Mickey loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. He was very proud and involved in their sports and encouraged them to be the best. Above all “Nanny” was the love of his life for 50-plus years.

Mickey is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, and daughters Tiffany (Chad) Link, Colorado, and Tina (Jason) Schroeder, Stevens Point. Five grandchildren: Ty and Josie Link, Colorado and Jackson, Bo, and Fletcher Schroeder, Stevens Point.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brothers: Susan, Pat, Dick, Nancy. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Billy, Danny, Dawn, and Dana.

The family would like to thank the Tomah VA hospital for providing quality care to Mickey in his final days.

Due to COVD and the safety of all, the family has requested a private funeral at this time. The family desires to have a “Mickey style” Celebration of Life at a later date.
