STEVENS POINT — A garage fire on Woodland Street early Tuesday prompted a Metro Fire response, resulting in significant damage but no serious injuries.
Crews were dispatched to 5509 Woodland St. at 12:09 a.m. on Dec. 3 following a 911 call reporting smoke. Battalion Chief Brandon Hageman said firefighters arrived to find smoke pouring from the garage’s main door and a side entry.
“It was smoke pushing out of the garage when we arrived,” Hageman said. “There was heavy smoke and fire damage to the garage, which was attached to a duplex. One unit was involved, with some light smoke damage in the living space.”
Firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover, Hull, and Rudolph responded.
Residents safely evacuated the home before fire crews arrived. One person was treated on the scene for minor injuries and released. No pets were involved, and the American Red Cross was not called to assist.
The uninvolved unit of the duplex was cleared for reentry, but it was unclear if residents of the damaged unit were able to return, Hageman said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters cleared the scene in about an hour.
