Melba Marie Sullivan, née Frodermann, 91
Melba Marie Sullivan, née Frodermann, age 91, passed away on June 7, 2022.
Born in Hermann, Missouri, on November 27, 1930, and married in 1949, she led a busy life. After graduating high school as valedictorian, she moved to Denver at age 16 where she later met her future husband.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1962, and in 1965 the family moved to Stevens Point where she taught elementary students for the Stevens Point Area Public School District for 26 years.
She earned her master’s degree in 1977. She sang in the St. Paul’s United Methodist choir and the Monteverdi Master Chorale.
A life-long traveler, she took many pictures to share with others. Later in life, she was pleased to be able to support local arts. She had a strong interest in nature, conservation, and science, especially aviation. She earned her private pilot’s license in 1980 and was a member of the Stevens Point Pilots Association for many years.
She and her husband had an award-winning energy-efficient house built in 1997; she was a life member of the Midwest Renewable Energy Association.
Survived by four children: Michael C. Sullivan (Mary Weber) of Arlington Hts., Ill.; Jean Schicker (Scott) of Paradise, UT; Timothy Sullivan of Nashwauk, Minn.; and Susan Sullivan of New London, Wis.; four grandchildren: Isaac, Micah, and Jennifer Schicker, and Maureen Sullivan; great-grandson James Schicker; and nephew Herbert Lutz and niece Carla Lutz. Preceded in death by her husband Michael F. Sullivan, sister Ruth A. Lutz (Forrest), brother Lee W. Frodermann, and daughter Kathryn A. Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Stevens Point on Saturday, June 18, at 11 a.m., preceded by a time of visitation at 10 a.m.
