Medford tops short-handed Pacelli in boys tennis matchup

STEVENS POINT — A short-handed Pacelli Catholic High School boys tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to Medford on Thursday, April 24.

The Cardinals were forced to forfeit four matches, including three in singles play and one in doubles, due to a limited roster. Their lone win came at No. 1 doubles, where Hunter Wrezinski and Marcus Lansing defeated Medford’s Mason Reimann and Blaine Searles in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

In singles play, Cale Schulz shut out Josh Opaneye at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 through No. 4 singles matches were all decided by forfeit.

Medford also claimed victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Axl Spanbauer and Christian Preuss outlasted Evan Pekarek and Chad Ellingson in a comeback win, 2-6, 6-1, 10-5. Medford’s Cash Thums and Carter Zenner won at No. 3 doubles by forfeit.
