‘Mechanics for Mutts’ rakes in big dough

Local NAPA Auto Care centers have raised over $10,000 for the Portage Co. Humane Society.

The third annual “Mechanics for Mutts” campaign began in October, with proceeds from oil changes, repairs, or a percentage of each day’s sales through the beginning of November going towards the cause.

Two of the participating businesses, D&D Auto and Check’s Muffler Center, presented Sherri Galle-Teske, director of the humane society, with a check for $10,132.67 during the Nov. 2 PetFest.

Dave Harvath, from D&D Auto, said his wife, Anna, has a “soft spot” for animals, and the program was one way his business could give something back to the community that has supported him for nearly 30 years.
