Maxine Biser, née Turenne, 86
Maxine Biser, née Turenne, age 86, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, surrounded by her family after a brave battle with cancer.
Maxine was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Thorp, to Joseph E. and Elsie E. (née Henchen) Turenne. She grew up in Thorp, where she was baptized and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She graduated from Thorp High School in 1956, where she met the love of her life, James “Mitch” Biser, during their senior year. The couple was crowned homecoming king and queen, beginning a love story spanning over six decades.
Maxine and James were married on June 11, 1960, at Saint Hedwig’s Chapel in Thorp and later moved to Stevens Point, where they worked in the public school system and raised their family. Known for her love of tradition, Maxine hosted warm and joyful family gatherings, particularly during the holidays.
She was actively involved in her daughter’s Girl Scouts activities and spent time teaching her children the values of love and togetherness. After purchasing a lake property on Connor’s Lake in 1987, Maxine spent her summers at the cabin, surrounded by family and the outdoors she loved. In their later years, she and James enjoyed winters together in Orange Beach, Ala.
Maxine is survived by her husband, James; their children, Jodi Biser of Plainfield, Wis., Brad Biser (Judy Rachick) of Brule, Wis., and Craig (Noreen Klesmith) Biser of Pike Road, Ala.; and five grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Roger (Josephine) Turenne of Deatsville, Ala. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Wallace; and her brothers, Raymond, Robert, and Richard Turenne.
A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Home in Stevens Point. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service. Casual attire, including jeans, is requested for the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maxine’s name to Compassus Hospice or the Connors Lake/Lake of the Pines Association.
Maxine’s life was a testament to love, family, and resilience, and her memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her.
