Mary J. Duecker, 90

Mary J. Duecker, 90, of Plover, died Aug. 9, 2025, while under the care of Heartland Hospice, in the company of her husband.

Mary was born July 17, 1935, in Wisconsin Rapids to the late Benjamin and Rosemary (née Sage) Rossier. She attended local grade schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1953.

Her career included positions at Household Finance, First National Bank, and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She worked at UW–Stevens Point in the School of Communicative Disorders as a program assistant for 20 years until her retirement in 1998.

She married Wayne Allen Duecker on Sept. 9, 2009, at the Church of Intercession in Stevens Point.

Mary will be remembered as caring, determined, and an outdoorswoman. She relished her younger years, spending as much time as she could outdoors. She enjoyed fly fishing, sailing, camping, hiking, running, biking, swimming, cross-country skiing, and traveling, especially her annual trips to the Smoky Mountains.

One of her proudest moments came in 1990, when she earned first place in the Tri Copps Triathlon in the 50–54 division.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; son, Mark (Amy) Holtz; siblings, Charlie (Glenda) Rossier, Carol Gawlik, and Edmund Rossier; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and church family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Suzanne Zorn; brother-in-law, Louis Gawlik; sister-in-law, Linda Rossier; and brother-in-law, Alvin Zorn.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be sent, in lieu of flowers, to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
