Marie E. Ahrens, 80

Marie E. Ahrens, 80, passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2024, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point.

Marie was born on Dec. 7, 1943, in Stevens Point, the only child of George and Othelia (née Ellison) Kurz. She attended local schools and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1962. In 1965, she earned a nursing degree from the Madison General School of Nursing and embarked on a meaningful career as a registered nurse, known for her compassion and expertise.

While living in Madison, Marie met the love of her life, Richard Ahrens, who preceded her in death in 1998. The couple married on Aug. 24, 1968, and together raised two sons, Eric and Kurt. Marie dedicated herself to her family as a housewife, excelling as a cook, cheerleader at sporting events, and a source of guidance and comfort.

Marie is survived by her sons, Eric and his former wife Kristi and their children, Ethan, Owen, and Autumn; and Kurt (Amy) and their children, Evan and Emily. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Chandra Lucht and her former husband Dale, and their children, Aaron (Jennifer), Adam, and Zachary (Kathy); and Patricia (Dave) Coorough and their children, Katie (Jon) McCullick and Spence (Kelly) Coorough.

Marie enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family, particularly game days with her grandchildren. She cherished walks, lunch dates, and travels with close friends Jane Griffith of Arizona and Penny Banker of Stevens Point.

A lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Marie will be cremated according to her wishes. A private graveside service will take place in the spring of 2025 at Rest Lawn Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband and parents.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, Ira and Lois Ahrens.

The family is being assisted by Boston Funeral Home.
