Man Charged w/ Attempted Homicide After Stabbing Wife

By Brandi Makuski

A Rosholt man is scheduled to make an appearance in Portage Co. court on Monday after allegedly trying to kill his wife.

Dannie Miller, 31, was arrested Jan. 3 after dispatchers say he called 911 to report he’d “gotten into a knife fight” with his wife, and ultimately stabbed her.

Deputies responded to the home, located on Rustic Dr. in Sharon, where Miller was taken into custody without incident. When they entered the home, deputies found Miller’s wife wearing a bloody tank top but conscious and alert. After telling law enforcement Miller stabbed her with a kitchen knife, she was taken for surgery to a Wausau hospital.

Four small children were home at the time of the incident, deputies say.

The couple reportedly had a verbal argument the week prior, during which Miller also called deputies. According to the complaint, Miller left the home that night and had been living in his truck. He returned home on Jan. 3 to retrieve his mail with the woman’s permission, the complaint said, when another argument ensued.

During the argument, Miller pulled a kitchen knife from a butcher block and pointed it at her. She tried convincing him to put the knife away, the complaint said, reasoning four small children were in the next room, but said he looked “out of it,” and kept repeating, “You’re making me do this.”

The woman pushed Miller away several times before he stabbed her in the abdomen, according to the complaint. Deputies also found blood on a hand towel and in the kitchen sink, the complaint said.

The woman told deputies Miller had previously been diagnosed with a mental health condition and she suspected he was not taking his medication for several months, according to the complaint.

He is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.

Miller is being charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, which carries a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison; and first-degree reckless injury, which has a top sentence of 25 years.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 3 PM in Branch 1.
