Make up your mind: SPASH seniors celebrate National Decision Day

Metro Wire Staff

Nearly 200 students in the SPASH Class of 2019 announced their plans for after high school on May 1.

Nationally recognized as College Decision Day, Wednesday brought a large chunk of the school’s graduating seniors into the field house to symbolically make their college of choice known by signing a SPASH banner.

“While the day itself is focused on college admission decisions, we really wanted to take a few moments to celebrate all decisions that our students are making for their futures,” said Val Willems, a counselor at SPASH.

According to a survey of the nearly 500 students graduating this month, SPASH says about 200 of the students will go on to study at a University of Wisconsin college, with 75 attending UW-Stevens Point. About 80 students say they planned to attend a technical college in Wisconsin—65 at Mid-State alone.

Eleven have committed to the armed services, according to the survey, while seven will enter an adult apprenticeship program. Nearly 50 students say they will attend out-of-state public and private schools including Brigham Young University, Claremont McKenna, Duke, and Harvard.

SPASH Commencement will take place on Sunday, May 26, at 1 p.m.
