Lorraine Kathryn Swanson, 89

Lorraine Kathryn Swanson, née Johnson, 89, of Plover, passed away Dec. 14, 2024.

Swanson was born April 25, 1935, in Knowlton, Wis., and graduated from Wabeno High School in 1953, where she was voted homecoming queen.

She married DeLaine Swanson in November 1953, and they moved to Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland during his U.S. Army service. After two years, they returned to central Wisconsin. Her husband preceded her in death in August 2015.

She worked as a teacher’s aide at Ben Franklin Junior High School in Stevens Point before joining the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She worked as a typist in the faculty typing department and later as an administrative assistant in the chancellor’s office.

An avid knitter and crocheter, she learned the craft from her grandmother and created cherished sweaters and afghans for her family. She enjoyed traveling and camping across the U.S. with her husband and spent retirement at their cottage in Wabeno.

She is survived by three children, Nancy Swanson of Stevens Point, Randy (Karen) Swanson of Plover, and Dale (Sandy) Swanson of Door County; nine grandchildren, Dan (Katie) and Emily Niemczyk, Breanne (Richy) Yin and Brett Swanson, Molly Swanson, Jill, Lauren, Maggie, and Dale Jr. Swanson; and three great-grandchildren, Campbell and Lucas Niemczyk and Ava Ashe.

A private family service will be held, with interment at Runkel Cemetery in Junction City.
