Loretta Frances Fischer, 93
Loretta Frances Fischer, 93, Stevens Point, died peacefully on Saturday, September 3, 2022, after a brief illness.
Loretta was born on September 29, 1928, in Medford to the late Mary (Werner) & Hubert Henrichs (one of 14 children). On January 2, 1954, Loretta married Joel Fischer in Medford, and in the mid-1960s, moved to Stevens Point into the house on Brawley Street, where she raised a family of 10 and resided until her death.
When Joel died in 1990, Loretta, in her late 60’s, decided it was time for a 2nd career outside the home and she began 20+ years of service at McDonald’s on the city’s north side. Loretta was a wonderful hostess—greeting customers, cleaning tables, and delivering drive-thru orders—creating a welcoming, warm environment for all guests under the golden arches.
Loretta loved the Milwaukee Brewers, weekends at Wil-O-Acres, celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, baptisms, and other milestones with family members, attending games of grandchildren on the court, on the field, or on the diamond, and always enjoyed a “small white” in a cup from Belts’ during ice cream season. She was a wonderful cook (the best pea and bean soup around) and baker of many, many sweet treats, especially her apple crisp and frosted sour cream cutouts.
Loretta is survived by nine children: John (Nancy) Fischer of Menomonee Falls, Judy (Brian) Milkowski of Mosinee, Jeff (Marla) Fischer of Fond du Lac, Joe (Chris) Fischer of Plover, Jean (Steve) Erickson of Wisconsin Rapids, Jerry (Mary) Fischer of Stevens Point, Jill (Brant) Bergeron of De Pere, Jay (Kara) Fischer of Stevens Point and Joann (Chip) Lens of Milwaukee.
She is further survived by 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. They all brought her so much joy.
Loretta was preceded in death by her son James, husband Joel, and seven siblings.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 10 at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1401 Clark Street, Stevens Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. at the church, followed by interment in St. Stephen Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.shudafuneral.com.
A special thanks to Aspirus Stevens Point hospital for accommodating 30+ members of the Fischer family during the wonderful “living wake” for Loretta on September 2.
