Local group to host workshop to address social isolation, loneliness

A free conference on social isolation and loneliness will be held Nov. 7 at SentryWorld, offering insights on the growing issue affecting people of all ages in Portage County.

The event is being hosted by the Portage County Rural Communities Social Connection Task Force.

The event, which runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., aims to bring together professionals and community members to discuss national and statewide strategies to address the epidemic of isolation and loneliness. Organizers say attendees will have the opportunity to network and explore ways to strengthen social connections locally.

According to health experts, social isolation can be as harmful as smoking 15 cigarettes a day, significantly increasing the risk of health issues, including premature death.

The conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about the issue and contributing to efforts to build stronger community relationships.
