Local cops raise $2K for Special Olympics

Metro Wire Staff

Local law enforcement has surpassed its fundraising goal for its annual polar plunge.

Several officers from the Stevens Point Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol participated with several other teams, jumping into the icy waters of the Wisconsin River on Feb. 4. One athlete from Special Olympics also jumped with the team.

Team captain Sgt. Robert Roser said they set a goal of $500 but raised about $2,000 to help support Special Olympics.

Local law enforcement has participated in the fundraiser for more than 20 years, stemming back to the late 1990s and initiated by Stevens Point Police Sgt. Tony Zblewski, who has since retired. Local officers, deputies, state troopers, and FBI agents have participated in various group iterations since then.
