A local church is holding a free screening of a documentary.
Holy Spirit Church will offer the viewing, followed by discussion, of “The Letter: A Message for Our Earth,” on Friday, Oct. 13.
The 2022 documentary film is based on Pope Francis’ environmental encyclical, Laudato Si: On Care for Our Common Home (2015). The film has been shown throughout the country and world, including on National Public Television in the USA. It was previously shown at the church in April.
“The Letter” includes perspectives from environmental leaders representing the Brazilian Amazon, India, Senegal, and the United States, who were invited to Rome by Pope Francis to discuss climate change, its effects on people, communities, and ecosystems, and what can be done to address the problem.
The event is open to the public, free of charge, and will take place on Friday, Oct. 13, in Spirit Hall of Holy Spirit Parish, also known by many locals as St. Stanislaus Church, 2151 Stanley St., from 6 – 7:20 p.m. The public is welcome, and refreshments will be served.
The screening and discussion are being hosted by the church’s Social Justice Committee.
