STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Fire Department will conduct a live fire training exercise later this month on the city’s east side.
The training is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, from 8 a.m. to noon at 3100 Whiting Ave.
Fire department officials said the exercise is designed to help firefighters maintain and improve skills in fire behavior, fire suppression, search and rescue, incident management, communications and other emergency response disciplines.
Crews will work through objective-based scenarios developed in accordance with National Fire Protection Association standards for safe and effective training.
Residents in the area may notice large amounts of smoke during the exercise, according to the department.
The Stevens Point Fire Department also thanked nearby residents for their support during the training event.
