Letter: We may all be living near the Twilight Zone
To the Editor-
If you live in, or near, 44.5236 degrees N and 89.5746 degrees W, you may live in the Twilight Zone.
How can you determine if you are in that zone? Here are some ways to tell.
You agree that the City of Stevens Point should reduce the lanes on Division St./Church St.
You agree that there should be a roundabout at the corner of 4th Ave. and Division St., one block from the fire department that uses this thoroughfare to get to your property in the event of a fire, natural disaster, or to reach you or your loved one in the event that you need emergency medical treatment.
You agree that the city should “build more bike lanes”. After all, “If you build them, they will come”. (Hasn’t happened to the present lanes distributed near and far in this town.)
You agree that the city should be paying AECOM over a million dollars to come up with these ideas.
You agree that the city should pay top dollar for properties along Division St. that seem to be in the way of these ideas.
You agree that fewer lanes for cars/trucks is a good idea. How many of you have watched the fires raging in the northwest part of the country?
People live in those areas and need to evacuate in the fastest way possible. Do you think that we are protected from all disasters and that we’ll NEVER need to get out of the way of fire, floods, explosions, etc.? They can, and do happen. We need multiple lanes in place for our protection.
Here’s how to score your answers:
If you said yes to one suggestion, you have your foot in the door to the Twilight Zone.
If you said yes to more than one, YOU HAVE ENTERED THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
