To the Editor-

There has been little coverage of an important question being presented to Wisconsinites on the November 5th ballot.

On the back of the ballot is the State of Wisconsin Eligibility to Vote Referendum: “Eligibility to vote. Shall section 1 of Article III of the constitution, which deals with suffrage, be amended to provide that only a United States citizen age 18 or older who resides in an election district may vote in an election for national, state, or local office or at a statewide or local referendum?”

The language of the referendum may look complicated, but it really asks voters to decide whether only citizens should be authorized to vote in Wisconsin state and local elections.

As citizens, our vote is our voice. Allowing non-citizens to vote would diminish the voices of those who were born in this country or made the extraordinary effort to become an American.

Vote YES on the November 5th ballot referendum!
