Letter: Rural school teacher supports Raabe
To the Editor-
I’m writing in support of Mr. Dennis Raabe, candidate for Stevens Point School Board.
While I do not live in the Stevens Point school district, I work as a substitute teacher at the nearby Almond-Bancroft school district. Many times, the policies and precedents set forth by the larger school districts in our area, have a great effect on our small school districts. This is why I strongly recommend and support Dennis Raabe for the School Board position.
I have worked in Almond-Bancroft for over 11 years. We’ve seen many district administrators come and go, especially recently. While Dennis was our interim administrator, he was always visible in the hallways and the classrooms. He talked to every student and staff member that he passed. The students absolutely loved him! Not only that, they RESPECTED him. If you have ever worked with teenagers, you know that is a difficult task. He made it a point to learn about each student’s interests and he genuinely showed that he cared. You would always find Dennis in the stands at every sporting event, musical performance or concert, and Homecoming/Prom/Post Prom events.
We had the good fortune of having Dennis substitute teach for us recently and even though he had not worked at our school for quite some time, the students made a point to come to say hello to him and catch up. He still remembered their names and their interests!
Dennis would also sit in and observe teachers and classes all throughout the day. He would give constructive criticism and compliments to staff members after observations. During his time with us, I remember having a strong sense of staff unity and high morale. This was not limited to only the teachers, but everyone: custodians, kitchen staff, and support workers such as myself, etc. I remember during the Christmas season, I had never seen the kitchen and cafeteria so decorated. There was such a feeling of fun and excitement throughout the school during that time. Dennis encouraged that spirit! It has been sorely missed since.
Dennis was also the kind of administrator that would get things done. If there was a custodial need, staff concern, or anything that was necessary for the betterment of our school and our students, Dennis would make it happen.
I wish I could vote for Dennis Raabe. Dennis has experience with all aspects of how a school should work properly. He is approachable and he listens. Dennis wants what is best for our students and the people in our school districts.
He is an incredible individual and I know that he will work tirelessly for the success of the students, the staff, and the community. Please vote for Dennis Raabe on April 5.
