Letter: Recall effort spreads ‘false truths’ about masks

To the Editor-

On Friday, September 3 an active and very vocal member of the Freedom Fighters of Central Wisconsin, submitted papers to begin a recall petition for Stevens Point School Board members Ann Vang, Barbara Portzen, Christina Scott, Gee Pope, and Jeffrey Ebel.

This recall has actively placed doubt and claimed false truths concerning the Stevens Point Area Public School District mask mandate and the effectiveness of masks against COVID-19 and other communicable illnesses.

The board, in my opinion, and the opinion of the 668+ members of Central Wisconsin Stop the Spread, is that they have willingly and consciously worked tirelessly to attempt to keep our students and staff healthy.

The Freedom Fighters of Central Wisconsin have made their wishes known.
They may be loud.
They are certainly visible.
They are not the majority.

Do your part. Wear a mask. Get vaccinated. Support efforts within our schools to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
