Letter: Reader ‘incredulous’ over hospital worker’s remarks on Trump

To the Editor-

I can’t believe what the world is coming to. I was at St. Michael’s Hospital for some lab work the other day, and while sitting in the waiting room I overheard the receptionists talking about the attempted [former President Donald] Trump assassination.

One receptionist says to the other, “Too bad he wasn’t a better shot, it would have been better if he were killed.” I was floored. I just heard a hospital employee voice her dismay that another human being hadn’t been murdered, in a voice loud enough for everyone in the waiting room to hear.

I asked her if I heard her right, that she wished Trump had been killed. Her response was, “That’s just the way I feel.” I was incredulous.

I told her I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. She told me, “I guess we see things differently.”

I asked to speak to the lab manager, who forwarded my concerns to the receptionist’s boss. I was told I would get some follow-up after this situation had been addressed. I received nothing.

So, today I called and tracked down the lady’s boss. He told me that comments like that are unacceptable, and he was sorry I had to hear them. And nothing else. No discipline whatsoever. Nothing. I would not accept hearing stuff like that said ANYWHERE, about ANYONE, let alone in a hospital.

I am seriously considering changing providers. This woman knows my name, can access my medical records, talks to nurses and techs who would be caring for me. This is beyond troubling.
