Letter: Raabe has the right stuff for school board

To the Editor-

On April 5 we will be voting to fill a number of seats on the Stevens Point School Board.

We attended the League of Women Voters forum, hoping to hear all 8 of the Stevens Point School Board candidates respond to League and audience questions. Jeff Ebel, Rob Manzke, Barb Portzen, and Dennis Raabe were the only four candidates present.

It was disappointing that Alex Sommers, Jennifer Bushman, Miguel Campos, and Kari Prokop did not attend.

Dennis spent his career serving the Stevens Point School District as a much respected elementary school principal. After retiring, Dennis set his personal plans aside when called upon to fill the role of interim Superintendent of Schools for four other school systems in Wisconsin. His ability to listen, support teachers and students, build consensus, and implement new fiscal efficiencies were all on display.

We are confident that Dennis WILL NOT walk in lockstep with any group of board members when voting on issues and budgets.

What you WILL GET is a board member who:

* Will bring unparalleled experience to the board.

* Will always listen to parents and discuss in a civil and respectful manner.

* Will ask questions and not be afraid to challenge.

* Will be fiscally responsible.

*Will support and value our teachers and the needs of today’s students.

Dennis Raabe understands that quality education is more than knowing your ABCs!

Most importantly, VOTE on April 5th.
