LETTER: Morganroth seeks non-partisanship on county board

To the Editor-

My name is Ed Morganroth, Jr., and I’m running for Portage County Board Supervisor in District 14.

I’ve been knocking on lots of doors, but I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself to residents of District 14 that I haven’t met yet. District 14 is on both sides of Post Road in Plover, from Hwy. 54 up to Tommy’s Turnpike/Porter Rd.

I think my background, relevant experience, and stated positions on a number of current county issues make me the best candidate for the position. Here’s a quick summary of my background, experience, and positions on some important county issues:

Here’s a bit about me: experience in local government/over 25 years in Plover; 40 years business/financial experience; integrity and transparency; these are non-partisan positions—I will act that way and will work with everyone to get things done for Portage County.

I’ve served as a school board member here from 2007-2010 and again in 2019/20 for about eight months, so I have experience working on a local government board.

As respects community/volunteer service, I have been on the board of the Portage County Historical Society, a Roosevelt School PTO officer, a youth soccer coach for a year and I currently volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club.

There are a number of county issues that are critical at this time as follows:
—Portage County Health Care Center issues: I support the county passing the upcoming referendum to rebuild the health care center for our seniors who need it.
—American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funding: How should the county’s very substantial funding from the federal American Rescue Plan be utilized? Portage County has/will receive about $13.7 million.
—Justice center and jail facilities: We need to develop a game plan for how to proceed with a review (and decisions!) regarding a new/renovated justice center and jail and related infrastructure needs.
—Water quality:– We need to maintain and improve the county environment including water quality – both underground water, public and private wells, and surface water bodies.
—County finances: The county should undertake a review of its finances and budget including taxes, expenses, and reserves to see if improvements can be made and if the county is focused on its short-term priorities and long-term strategic plan.

I am proud to have received the following endorsements: Citizen Action of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Conservation Voters

Thanks for reading and I would really appreciate your vote on Tuesday, April 5.

Candidate, Portage County Board District 14
