Letter: Local government should be small, respect personal choice

To the Editor-

The proper role of government is to protect our God-given rights to live our lives in peace, prosperity, and happiness.

America’s vision statement is the Declaration of Independence, “…That when any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to change it or abolish it.”

The City of Stevens Point, Wisconsin needs a path back to our vision statement.

The residents of Stevens Point, Wisconsin believe that the city functions best:

*When it represents a close, accountable bond with its people.

*When it respects the people to make the best decisions for themselves and their children about health, education, jobs, and welfare.

*When taxation without representation is eliminated and when taxes are the minimum needed to fund city operations.

*When leaders reject crystal balls that uselessly predict and fund city needs 50 years into the future. We the people believe this is why Plover, Wisconsin has a roundabout in the middle of a cornfield at the end of a road and enjoys fake bike lanes bikers refuse to use.

*When leaders refrain from wasting time, money, and energy endlessly discussing pointless plans to relocate businesses and homes. It is a fantasy to construct roundabouts that slow emergency vehicles, install meridians that did not help Tiger Woods, and alter our generous 4 lane thoroughfare to 2 lanes.

*When fearful muscle bikers and pedestrians choose to protect themselves from 25 mph traffic by using the traffic lights, walker signals, signs, road markings, and crossing guards rather than hysterically begging for expensive refuge islands in the middle of the road.

*When global engineers honestly give advice based on facts that no fatalities and 9 serious injuries occurred from 2015-2019 on this road. That is 2 serious injuries per year where the person involved was unable to walk or drive away from the accident.

We the people resent the domination and restriction of our liberties by the current city leaders. This hatred of bullies and dominators motivates us to come together, in solidarity, to impose or take down our oppressors by voting them out of office. Take back our city Tuesday, 6 April 2021 by voting for conservative alderpersons who will loyally protect our God-given rights.
