Letter: Local business will suffer under mask mandate

To the Editor-

District 1 Supervisor Vincent Miresse would like everyone to wear masks at all times as per Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, etc.

I would like to point out that we are not Milwaukee, Green Bay, Madison, or any other large city. We have but a fraction of the population. With his desire to fine businesses that allow shoppers to visit their stores without masks, he is planting the seed of the destruction of businesses that have had the most difficult months of their lives.

He will chase them away from the city of Stevens Point—if they have survived at this point in time.

I applaud the people that want to wear face masks to protect themselves. However, are they really protected? Are we protected?

Do you have a new one to put on each and every time you wear a mask?
Do you sanitize/wash the ones that are washable after EACH wearing?
Do you put the mask on while wearing a new pair of latex gloves?
Ooops, my wife/husband/child/mother in law, neighbor, just gave me a kiss. Time for a new one.
Did you sneeze while wearing one?
Did you cough while wearing one?
Did you wipe your nose?
Did you use the bathroom and wash your hands?
Did you push the mask up and put it in place after it slid away? You’d better have gloves on and be putting a new one in place.

These are all real factors that will determine if a piece of cloth is really going to stop any/all germs. If one wears a mask many times, we now have bacteria and viruses living right on the front of our faces. Am I safe from you? Probably not.

Is it time to use some precautions and not be foolish? Yes, of course.

But mandating face masks of all descriptions, styles, fabrics, etc., whether clean or dirty, is a bit of insanity.

It is time for common sense, and in the end, we will protect our local, regional, and national businesses that are still here. Or, would you rather they be put out of business and we can all use the internet for our daily needs?
