Letter: Holman’s military, business experience makes him best choice

To the Editor-

I hope you’ll join me and vote for Chris Holman for Portage County Executive on April 3.

I grew up in Portage County, am a proud 1990 graduate of Almond Bancroft High School, and am happy I returned to Portage County with my family. We have been lucky to know Chris and Maria and share their love of Portage County. We live in a beautiful community. Our strong rural ideals and progressive values have created amazing assets. Many that rival those found in larger communities. We also live in a time of great change and uncertainty.

It is no longer enough to have leadership with management experience. Portage County deserves leadership that understands the business, economic, environmental and social trends in the county. In a time of declining local control, we need leadership that understands the larger statewide and national forces at play and who can work across the aisle to ensure Portage County residents and businesses are top of mind when decisions are made.

Chris is this leader. His experience as an army sergeant, university educator, small business owner and farmer give him important skills and a deep respect for others that we need in our next county executive.

Since getting in the race, Chris has taken time to learn about the role and limits of the job. He loves Portage county yet understands the serious challenges in front of us. He listens to residents’ concerns and takes time to educate us about complex issues. Chris has demonstrated that he can work with leaders at all levels of government and get things done.

I want to see Chris put his leadership and experience to work for Portage County. I hope you do too.
