Letter: Former captain at PCSO supports Chojnacki

To the Editor-

Voters of Portage County, you have a great opportunity on August 9, 2022, to elect a new sheriff.

I am Mike Baumhofer (Ret.), former captain of the Portage County Sheriffs Office. I served 35 years in law enforcement ending in 2011. My last four years were served as captain of corrections at the sheriff’s office.

I worked with Florian Chojnacki Jr. his entire career and still work with him today in the Portage County courthouse. Over the years I have watched Florian become a fine officer. He has demonstrated thoughtfulness, the ability to listen, and most importantly, problem-solving. Traits I greatly admire. After all, we in law enforcement chose this calling to help people in need. I know that Florian Chojnacki Jr. will continue to live by these fine traits if elected as your next sheriff.

Other retired management and sheriff’s personnel are also supporting Florian for sheriff. Even though we are retired, we still care about the men and women of the sheriff’s office. We all know just how stressful the job can be. Job stress can be tempered with the right person in charge.

Please join me in electing Florian Chojnacki Jr. on August 9, 2022.

Michael Baumhofer
