Letter: Dems, keep the faith
To the Editor-
We the people have spoken in a very convincing manner, Donald Trump is president-elect.
Analyzing the details of why we selected this orange monster will go on forever. But, in my opinion, it was in no small part due to the result of extreme inaccurate and misleading information magnified by the bull horns of social media, Fox News, and right-wing talk radio. These 24/7 outlets invented alternative facts and twisted Trump lies to stroke fears and resentment towards “those” people. In right-wing talk “those” people are minority groups, immigrants, the enemy within, non-Christians, elites, etc.
It appears that throughout the world this right-wing propaganda is winning the day. If we don’t like it, what can we do? I’m not sure, other than to continue to call out against misinformation and lies. I believe, as a liberal Democrat, that we have the high ground. Our goals are guided by fairness, inclusion, and respect for the Constitution and the rule of law led by leaders with character. Not ruled by billionaires, revenge, a demagogue, an autocrat, and even a convicted felon.
In light of the first round of leaders picked for the second Trump administration, I don’t think it is too early to ask, do you like the direction our country is going? Are you feeling better now than you did before November 5th? How low can we go?
I also believe we should remember and report on all of Trump’s promises. For example, I especially think of his promise to reduce all prices, specifically energy prices by 50% in nine months. He made this promise in early September at Central Wisconsin Airport and it included gasoline and all utilities (heating, air conditioning, and electricity).
And God help us I hope he is not able to kick out 15 to 20 million immigrants, but he owns the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, so it looks bleak. Who can stop him?
