Letter: City should do more to protect groundwater

To the Editor:

The Stevens Point Plan Commission declined the zoning change on HH and Hoover. This action was just the beginning, and we should find a way to work to protect the groundwater.

We have a groundwater protection zone in effect, but we need to do more. Our water is our greatest resource that needs to be protected at all costs. The Village of Whiting, for years, has been removing nitrates from our water due to a lack of knowledge in the past. As a resident of Whiting and on the plan commission, I know we must look at each item that comes up. We need to take the lessons learned from the past and not let them be repeated.

Now is the time for Stevens Point, the Village of Whiting, and the Village of Plover to come together to protect our groundwater for the future. We all need this resource to live!!!

So please form an alliance to protect our wells and find commerce that will not put them in danger!
