Letter: Bus. 51 project was ‘flown under the radar’
To the Editor-
The more I look into the Bus. 51 road project the more it stinks.
The businesses were never included in this project, intentionally. Both our City Council and AECOM hid the project from all the business owners. Why do you think none of us were involved?
As the city and AECOM hide behind their argument that there were meetings, I still wonder why none of the businesses were invited to participate. We never received a phone call from either the city or AECOM to participate. A simple door hanger that most of us never received seems to be their only form of communication.
Three weeks after the door hanger, supposedly hung on Feb. 21, 2020, we were put on lockdown for two months by a pandemic. Businesses struggled to keep their doors open during this time and concentrated on keeping our employees employed and their families fed.
There is no doubt that by using this pandemic, the Common Council and AECOM were almost successful in flying this road project under the radar. That is, until Sept. 16, when we all found out about the Common Council meeting, where a 9-1 vote moved the project to 30 percent. You think we suddenly came out of the woodwork to protest this terrible project?
No—we were not made aware of it.
Thank God we hired a lawyer back in September, or we would be dead in the water after last week’s 10-1 vote against the referendum.
Keep your eyes open. Something big is gonna happen soon.
Thank everyone for the support.
