Law Enforcement, Firefighters to Square Off in Red Kettle Challenge

The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is holding its annual Portage County Public Safety Challenge on Saturday.

Law enforcement officers from the Wis. State Patrol, Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point and Plover police departments, along with firefighters from Stevens Point, Plover and Park Ridge will battle to see which department can raise the most money in their respective red kettles.

The challenge runs from 10 AM to 4 PM on Dec. 9 at the following locations:

  • Stevens Point Police Dept. at Trig’s in Stevens Point, 1600 Academy Ave.
  • Portage County Sheriff’s Office at Copp’s Market, 1500 Pinecrest Ave.
  • Stevens Point Fire Dept. at Fleet Farm, 5590 U.S. 10
  • Plover Fire and Plover Police departments at the entrances of Walmart in Crossroads Commons, 250
  • Crossroads Dr.
  • State Patrol and Park Ridge Fire Dept. at Walgreens, 10 Park Ridge Dr.

    The Red Kettle Campaign in Portage County runs through 4 PM on Dec. 23.

Volunteers are still needed to ring bells. To sign up for shifts at any number of locations Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 8 PM, go to www.sastevenspoint.org, or call the Salvation Army at (715) 341-2437 to sign up for shifts.

The goal for this year’s campaign is $175,000.
