WISCONSIN – The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has appointed Julie Lassa as administrator of the Division of Agricultural Development, Secretary Randy Romanski announced Monday.

“Julie has decades of experience with the agriculture industry, stakeholder relationships, and leadership,” Romanski said in a statement. “DATCP aims to be a resource to the industry and citizens of the state, and I know that Julie’s background and strengths will support her work as she joins the team.”

Lassa, who grew up on a small family dairy farm in central Wisconsin, has been an advocate for agriculture throughout her career. As a Wisconsin legislator, she authored laws creating the Buy Local, Buy Wisconsin and Farm to School programs.

She most recently served as Wisconsin state director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development, focusing on investments in housing, community infrastructure, and business development in rural communities.

“I am extremely pleased to be joining DATCP and continuing to work to advocate for Wisconsin agriculture and new economic opportunities for this key sector of our state’s economy,” Lassa said in a press release.

Lassa holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. She will begin her new role on Feb. 18.
