Kenneth “Ken” J. Brown, 87

Kenneth “Ken” J. Brown, of Stevens Point, died April 6, 2025, at North Crest Assisted Living after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 87.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 14, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St. in Stevens Point. Beginning at 2:30 p.m., the family will invite anyone who would like to speak to share a memory of Ken.

Ken was born March 24, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the late Herman and Nola Brown. He grew up in the area and attended local schools.

After high school, Ken left Indiana to attend college. Though he studied at several universities, his heart was always at the University of Chicago. He earned a master’s degree in mathematics and later taught math at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point until his retirement.

While at UWSP, he met Joan Brown, née McAuliffe. The two were married Dec. 31, 1976, and shared 48 years together.

Ken enjoyed the outdoors and spent time growing a wide variety of plants, including flowers, trees, and exotic species. He was fond of daily walks through Iverson Park and had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, many of which he welcomed into his home over the years. He also appreciated classic cars, classical music, and his Chicago Bears. His dry sense of humor will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humane Society of Portage County at hspcwi.org.

The family extends special thanks to the staff at North Crest Assisted Living, the staff at Aspirus Comfort and Care Hospice, and to close friends Ron and Randy.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; and his brother, Jerry (Rebecca) Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim Brown.
