Karen Lee Amundson (née Nelson), 76
Karen Lee Amundson (Nelson), 76, of Stevens Point, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on the evening of August 30, 2022.
Karen was born on March 24, 1946, to Juel (Bud) Nelson and Ella (Lystig) Nelson in Mora, Minn. As a young girl, she attended local schools in the Barron/Rice Lake area and was a 1964 graduate of Barron High School.
Karen married her husband Michael Amundson on November 17, 1969. Together they raised six beautiful children. Karen and Mike moved to Stevens Point in 1975.
She worked at the Blue Top as a waitress in Stevens Point for about 25 years. She enjoyed her work and was proud of taking care of customers that came in, and especially looked forward to seeing the regular customers that would come in and request her. Through her retirement, she always had stories and spoke of the wonderful people she met through the years. Later on, she provided child care during the day up until her retirement.
Karen was happy, energetic, and always wanted to be on the go. She had the biggest heart and would help anyone with just about anything! She enjoyed many crafting activities, but enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, and sewing the most. She loved collecting several things she was interested in such as books, movies, cookbooks, home decorations, flower arrangements, Raggedy Ann & Andy, I Love Lucy, gnomes, and Christmas Elves. She also liked fishing, gardening, cooking, baking (especially at Christmas), canning, shopping, camping, puzzles, playing cards, talking on the phone with her sister Kristie, and getting together for meals to spend time with her family.
Karen is survived by her husband, Michael, and their six children; Kelvin Amundson (Melissa), Mark (Angela) Amundson, Pam Amundson, Jason (Christi) Amundson, Ashley (Steve) Newby, and Jordan (Sherry) Amundson. She had 12 grandchildren: Myranda, Marcus, Amber, Paul, Lance, Jon, Brittany, Stephanie, Thomas, Lyndsey, Finley, and Tucker. She also had several great-grandchildren. Her siblings Gary (Bonnie) Nelson of Barron, Wis., and Kristie (Richard) Pukema of Superior, Wis. also survive.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law Marv Amundson, and her sister-in-law Judy Amundson.
Her family thanks Compassus Hospice for helping to take great care of her over the past several months.
Immediate family is spending time together now. Because of the holiday weekend, they will have a celebration of her life this fall and they ask that you spend time with your family and say a prayer for them and Karen while enjoying memories of her.
