Juliane “Julie” Marie Skibicki, 73
Juliane “Julie” Marie Skibicki, née Kostka, age 73, passed away on her own terms on the evening of April 25, 2025, at Whispering Pines in Plover, Wis.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point, where she will be placed next to her loving husband.
Julie was born June 12, 1951, to Stanley and Berniece Kostka, née Dietsche, in Marshfield, Wis. She attended St. Joseph School, and graduated from Maria High School in 1969. She became a LPN in 1972 and worked at St. Michael’s Hospital until she had children. She then dedicated her time to stay home to lovingly raise them and take care of a few other children in her home. When her own children were school age, she got a job at Fleet Farm and worked there until her retirement in 2015.
At Sunset Lake, Julie met the love of her life, Ronald. They married Sept. 15, 1973. Together they loved fish fries, Old Fashioneds, and date nights. They took day trips close to home, ventured to Las Vegas a few times, and their last trip together was to Wyoming and Arizona. Together they built a loving home, raised two children, loved their four grandchildren, and enjoyed their cats throughout the years. Julie loved Ronald dearly until his untimely passing in October 2020.
Julie enjoyed reading (particularly romance novels, which Ron would lovingly joke about) and helping her husband in the gardens, tending to the flowerbeds. She especially loved lilacs, gladiolas, and peonies, and in the summer months, she always had a fresh bouquet of cut flowers from their garden on the table. She spent many hours on her sewing machine making clothes, curtains, and general clothing repairs and alterations. Julie loved being in the kitchen, spoiling her family with baked goods from scratch. Her favorites were apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, and cinnamon rolls. She always made quite a selection of Christmas cookies and shared plates of them with family and friends. Every year she sent out Christmas cards and loved receiving them and reading the letters and seeing the photos. She loved decorating her home for each of the holidays. They say you can take a girl out of nursing, but you can’t take nursing out of the girl. Even though she wasn’t licensed anymore, Julie still put her nursing skills to use when caring for her children and mother. She knew when her children were faking sick, when they really needed her, and gave her mom her B-12 shots. She looked forward to “GNO” (Girls Night Out) with her high school classmates, meeting on Wednesday nights at Bill’s Pizza. She also loved watching the Game Show Network and Hallmark Movies.
Julie always had a smile on her face, and a laugh that when she got going, made you laugh with her. Even when she was diagnosed with Corticobasal Degeneration in 2020, she never once complained about having that nasty disease that progressively stole bits of her and her beautiful life.
Julie is survived by her daughter, Kelly Drevlow of Arpin; son, Kyle (Sara) Skibicki of Plover; grandsons, Austin and Ethan Drevlow; granddaughters, Ava and Kelsey Skibicki; her brothers, Stan (Donna) Kostka and Marty Kostka; and nephews, John (Malayna) Spreda and Matthew (Tammy) Spreda.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her parents; her sister, Theresa Spreda; and brother-in-law, Patrick Spreda.
The family would like to express our utmost gratitude to St. Croix Hospice, especially Brenda, Laura, Mackenzie, and Chaplain Joe, along with the staff at The Lodge and Whispering Pines for taking such great care of Mom these last few years.
Shuda Funeral Chapel is honored to be assisting the family.
