Julia “Julie” Hartsough, 73
Julia “Julie” Hartsough, née Herzberg, of Pittsville, passed away on Oct. 3, 2024, at the age of 73.
Julie was born Dec. 11, 1950, in Marshfield, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Lawrence and Madeline (née Debevec) Herzberg. She grew up in Pittsville, graduating from Pittsville High School in 1969. While in high school, Julie spent two summers in Chicago working as a mother’s helper. Following graduation, she and her close friends spent the summer waitressing in Lake Geneva.
After her summer of waitressing, Julie began working at a phone company in Madison. Two years later, she married the love of her life, Glen Hartsough, on Oct. 2, 1971. In their early years of marriage, the couple lived in various cities, growing their family along the way.
While living in Baldwin, Wisconsin, they joyfully welcomed their son, Brent. Their daughter, Melanie, joined the family while they were living in St. Paul, Minnesota. From there, they relocated to Minnetonka, Minnesota, before returning to Julie’s hometown of Pittsville to be closer to family. Julie was a devoted mother, staying at home to raise their children while also helping on the family mink ranch. She worked at Stora Enso in Stevens Point for several years and enjoyed working at a local greenhouse.
Julie was the definition of an adventurous soul. In her lifetime, she bravely tried bungee jumping and skydiving. Additionally, she and Glen loved to travel the world, visiting places like New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Fiji, Japan, and Kenya, among others. While international travel brought her joy, her fondest memories were traveling with her family, no matter the destination. Every spring, the family embarked on an annual trip to somewhere warm, with many trips to the Caribbean, Mexico, and Hawaii. Julie also traveled with dear friends, Jim and Vicki, and often ventured to visit close family friends in Montana.
Upon retiring, she and Glen spent their winters in Surprise, Arizona, where Julie loved attending painting classes and workout sessions, as well as reading and relaxing by the pool. While her adventurous spirit took her all over the world, her greatest accomplishments in life were right at home: her family. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she was their number one fan at sporting events, cherishing her time with them in any activity, especially playing games and cards.
Julie will always be remembered as a kind person with a great sense of humor. Her love for her friends and family was limitless, extending beyond people to her beloved dogs. She shared her talents as well, being an excellent cook, from making pizzas to baking cookies. She also enjoyed gardening, growing both vegetables and flowers.
Julie is lovingly survived by her husband, Glen of Pittsville; their son, GR Brent (Jennifer) of Plover; their daughter, Melanie (Gregory) Hubbard of New Glarus, Wisconsin; and her grandchildren, Jack, GW Grant, Garrett, Harrison, Brooklyn, Finnley, and Addison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Madeline; and her siblings, Jeanne Knutson, née Herzberg, Janice Rasmussen, née Herzberg, Joan Herzberg, and David Herzberg.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many caregivers who aided in Julie’s care, as well as to all the neighbors, friends, and family for their support and well wishes.
A funeral service will be held for Julie at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
