Joyce R. Gilligan, 90

Joyce R. Gilligan, age 90, died in Stevens Point on October 29, 2021.

She was born in Reedsburg on March 31, 1931, to Arthur and Vivian (nee Rhodes) Hulburt. After a childhood in Reedsburg, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received a bachelor’s degree in Music.

Throughout most of her adult life, she gave piano lessons to a wide variety of students. She also served as a church organist and choir member. Many instrumental students benefitted from her skillful piano accompaniments.

She married Russell P. Gilligan on August 22, 1953. After his death, she married Max Kopchinski on June 20, 2009, in Stevens Point. She belonged to the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association and volunteered with Silver Threads.

Along with her lifelong love of music, she enjoyed reading and playing bridge and scrabble. She is survived by a sister and brother, five children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by both husbands and a daughter. A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, she will be greatly missed.
