John P. Yetter, 83

John P. Yetter, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully of natural causes at home surrounded by family on June 12, 2026, at the age of 83.

John was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Chicago; son of the late Harold and Julia (Kijowsi) Yetter. After his family moved to Stevens Point, John attended St. Peter Catholic School and graduated from Pacelli High School. While in high school, John excelled at sports including football and track.

On Feb. 10, 1962, John married Rosanne Wachowiak, whom he had met in high school. The two were blessed with 60 years of marriage until her passing in June 2022. Together, they welcomed four children through adoption: Eric, Mike, Jennifer and Sarah. To support his family, John worked at Roberts Irrigation and Home Furnishings before he found his long-term career at Consolidated Papers. He dedicated 36 years to the company where he started in the pulp room and worked his way up to machine superintendent. One of his favorite traits was analyzing flaws in Christmas wrapping paper.

After his retirement at the age of 56, his passion became fishing. He and Rosanne purchased a camper on Lac Vieux Desert where he spent countless hours on the water, from spring to fall, for many years. He caught the biggest fish of his life in the fall of 1992 on Kentuck Lake, when he reeled in a 48-inch, 30-pound musky. John was extremely proud of this story and was sure to retell it whenever he could in the years to follow.

While John was an avid outdoorsman, he was also a skilled woodworker. He enjoyed spending time making musky baits, wood-carved decor and wood bowls. In fact, many people were blessed with his wooden bowl creations as heartfelt gifts. John was a proud owner of “The Land” where he spent 50 years chopping and cutting wood. He enjoyed this pastime up to his last days, going there daily to cut wood, even though he had already cut enough to last two years.

John is survived by his children, Eric (Lisa), Mike (Dee) and Sarah Yetter; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Rosanne; his parents, Harold and Julia; a daughter, Jennifer Firkus; a granddaughter, Alexa Yetter; two sisters, Henrietta Friday and Carolyn Glodowski; and three brothers, Fred Bachinski, Gerald Yetter and Hank Yetter.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley St., Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. John was not a believer in dressing up; his favorite attire included a comfortable flannel shirt and jeans. To honor John, the family invites those in attendance to dress in comfortable clothes, including a flannel shirt and jeans.
