Jazz band performance will offer everything from classic to swing

With music that ranges from classically-inspired works to swing jazz from the 1920s, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jazz Band will perform in concert Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Michelsen Hall in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point. Director Myles Boothroyd, assistant professor of saxophone, directs the band.

The program includes “Bemsha Swing” by Thelonious Monk, “Children’s Hour of Dream” by Charles Mingus, “Bingo!” by Matt Wilson, “The Art of Darkness” by James Miley, “The Goombay Smash” by Steven Owen and “Jump” by Wynton Marsalis.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for UW-Stevens Point students, faculty and youth and free the day of the concert for students with a UW-Stevens Point I.D. if not sold out.
