James Joseph Pavelski, 90

James Joseph Pavelski, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at home on November 18, 2022, after 90 beautiful years.

James was born September 2, 1932, in Stevens Point, Wis., to Joseph and Ludgera (Ludwikowski) Pawelski. He spent his entire life in Stevens Point, attending St. Peter’s grade school and graduating from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1950.

After high school, James courageously sacrificed years in the U.S. Navy; serving his country in the Korean War. Once honorably discharged, as a disabled veteran, he dedicated his career to the paper industry.

He worked for Consolidated Paper for 37 years as a coating department supervisor. James also led safety campaigns and held leadership roles with United Way.

As a young man, James married his lifelong friend, Mary Ann Golla. The two met in grade school as young children and knew early on they had a special connection. They were married on May 30, 1955, and went on to raise eight beautiful children together.

James was well known as an outdoorsman; from hunting and fishing to gardening and protecting the environment. He just loved being outside. At one point, he owned a Christmas tree farm and was part of the Consolidated Tree Farm Family. Additionally, he was a manager and coach for the Stevens Point Area Baseball Association.

James is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, his children; Michael (Sandy) Pavelski, Patrick (Patricia) Pavelski, Gerald (Kathleen) Pavelski, Lynn (Gregory) Hunter, Sandi (Chris) Weinert, Paulo (Gwen) Pavelski, Elizabeth (Kevin) Neuman; 18 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters; Jean Weir, Ruth Garski, and Kathleen Viertel; and one brother, Robert Pawelski.

James was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas Pavelski, and two sisters; Joyce Lobner and Evelyn Rekowski.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in James’ honor to Holy Spirit Parish in Stevens Point.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for James at Holy Spirit Parish, 2151 Stanley St., Stevens Point, Wis. 54481, on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Reverend Steve Brice officiating. Military Honors will follow the service.

Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will take place at St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later time.
