It’s back: Walk Wisconsin returns to the Green Circle Trail

By Patrick Lynn

Walkers from throughout Wisconsin, the Midwest, and across the country are gearing up for Walk Wisconsin on Saturday, June 4.

It’s the last time the event is the last to be hosted by Active Portage County. The organization has hosted the event since 2005.

Participants of all ages and ability levels can choose from three marathon events along the Green Circle Trail, including a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), or quarter marathon (6.5 miles). Training schedules and registration forms are available on the Walk Wisconsin page at ActivePortageCounty.com.

Although it’s not a race, Walk Wisconsin is organized much like a regular running marathon. Registered participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, sports sack, comfort, and nutrition stops along the way, a finish line celebration and medallion, plus Portage County hospitality all day long. The event fee is $30 through May 13 and $40 thereafter.

The marathon events are held on the Green Circle Trail, most of the event festivities take place at Pfiffner Pioneer Park.

Check-in will be available Friday evening and Saturday before the Walk begins at the Pfiffner Building, 401 Franklin St. The finish line celebration will be held near the Pfiffner Bandshell. Transportation will be available for participants walking the half marathon and the quarter marathon.

Wellness-minded individuals and organizations from the community who supported the event throughout the years will continue the legacy Active Portage County built via the Happy Trails fund at the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin.

Active Portage County is a non-profit organization that seeks to create a healthier Portage County by encouraging citizens to get active and lead healthier lives through programs and planned activities that motivate citizens to get regular exercise while educating the public on the risks of sedentary lifestyles.
