International animal mortality symposium coming to Stevens Point

STEVENS POINT — International experts in animal mortality management will gather in Stevens Point later this month for a symposium focused on research, policy and best practices related to the handling of animal deaths.
The International Symposium on Animal Mortality Management, known as ISAMM, will be held June 29 through July 2 at the Holiday Inn Stevens Point Convention Center. The event is being hosted in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point College of Natural Resources and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.
Held every three years, the symposium brings together professionals from government agencies, universities, research institutions, veterinary medicine, public health and other sectors to discuss challenges and advancements in animal mortality management. Topics range from routine disposal methods to large-scale emergency response efforts following disease outbreaks or natural disasters.
The conference will feature keynote presentations, technical sessions, networking opportunities and guided tours of facilities and practices across central Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection Secretary Randy Romanski is scheduled to address attendees. Dr. Alan Huddleston, the U.S. chief veterinary officer, will serve as a keynote speaker.
A public demonstration day is planned for July 1 at 1 p.m. at the Food + Farm Exploration Center in Plover. Activities will include animal composting demonstrations, soil pit descriptions, animal trapping equipment demonstrations, field tours, a wildlife scavenger hunt and access to the center’s science exhibits.
Members of the public may attend the demonstration day with paid general admission to the Food + Farm Exploration Center.
Established in 2005, ISAMM has grown into an international forum focused on advancing research, policy development and practical applications in animal mortality management.
