Hunter safety course offered in Amherst

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is offering an in-person hunter safety course in Amherst next month.

The five-day course will be held from 4-7 p.m. on August 21, 22, 24, and 29 at the Jensen Community Center, 487 N. Main St. in Amherst. A required field day at the Dewey shooting range will be on Aug. 26 from 8-11 a.m.

The course costs $10 per student and is open to anyone with interest, although the material is designed for students aged 11-12.
