PORTAGE COUNTY — Governor Tony Evers has signed an $11.7 million contract to improve I-39 between Hwy. 54 in Plover and Second St. North in Stevens Point.

The project is scheduled to begin on July 15.

American Asphalt of Wisconsin has been named the prime contractor. The project includes resurfacing the highway and its ramps, constructing a parallel entrance ramp at the U.S. Hwy. 10 interchange northbound entrance ramp, replacing guardrails, and installing high friction surface treatment on I-39 northbound at the Bus. 51 interchange, installing pavement markings, and adding shoulder rumble strips.

I-39 will remain open to traffic, although motorists should expect single-lane and ramp closures.

The project is expected to be completed by Nov. 8, depending on the weather.
