Head ‘off to the races’ at 2020 Passport to Paradise

Metro Wire Staff

The annual Passport to Paradise will bring the fun of the Kentucky Derby to Stevens Point.

The 18th annual event is one of the largest fundraisers for the Boys and Girls Club of Portage Co. and Stevens Point Area YMCA. Each year is themed, and guests are treated to live music, local food, a silent auction, and basket raffle.

The largest giveaway of the night will be a Kentucky Derby package for two, with tickets to the Kentucky Derby, a VIP Barn & Backside Tour of Churchill Downs, and a four-night stay near Louisville. Only 100 raffle tickets for the trip are available and the cost is $50 each.

Guests are asked to wear their best threads and biggest hats. Mint Juleps, pulled pork sliders, grits, and other Derby-themed foods will be served.

Music this year will be provided by Wisconsin-based Hip Pocket. Mayor Mike Wiza, UW-Stevens Point Chancellor Bernie Patterson, and other local celebrities will participate in an inflatable hose race.

Passport to Paradise will be held Friday, Jan. 17 from 7-10 p.m. at Sentryworld, 601 Michigan Ave. North. Tickets cost $35 at the door or $30 prior to the event.

Advanced tickets can be purchased at the Stevens Point Area YMCA or online at www.spymca.org/passport-to-paradise.

Derby raffle tickets can also be purchased in advance by contacting Mikayla Kleifgen at mikayla.kleifgen@bgclubpc.org.
