Have you filed for unemployment? We want to talk to you

Metro Wire Staff

More than 300,000 Wisconsinites have filed for unemployment in the past month.

Many have taken to social media to claim that three or more weeks after filing their initial unemployment claim, they have yet to receive any payments.

Dozens of local businesses across Portage Co. have been closed since Gov. Tony Evers issued a public health emergency in mid-March, leaving many without a paycheck. Many of those closures will continue, based on an April 16 announcement that Evers’ Safer at Home order will be extended until the end of May.

If you’ve filed for unemployed due to the COVID-19 closures, and you live in Portage Co., we want to hear your story by April 20.

What we need:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your city/village/town of residence
  • The name of your employer, or industry, and how long you’ve been working there
  • The size of your family (who in your household relies on your paycheck?)
  • When you filed your initial unemployment claim, and what have the results been?
  • How has your experience with the Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance system affected your family?
