Harvey L. Haidvogl, 94

Harvey L. Haidvogl, age 94, of Plover, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2018.

He was the oldest son of Leonard and Ann (Golla) Haidvogl.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at St Stephen Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at the church. Burial with military honors will follow in St Joseph Cemetery.

Harvey was born August 3, 1924, in Stevens Point. He attended St. Joseph’s School and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1942. Harvey lived across from St. Joseph’s and was an altar boy before first grade through eighth grade. Father Ehr would call on Harvey since he lived so close to serve when no one was available. He said he was always on call. He was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Stephen’s since 1971.

Following high school, he worked for Lewis-Ellis Manufacturing Plant in Milwaukee. He was then inducted into the U.S. Army from 1943-1946, where he worked as a weather communicator at the Pentagon building for the Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Harvey met Betty, the love of his life in 1945 at the Pentagon Picnic. They married on January 26, 1946, at the Bolling Field Air Force Base in Arlington, VA. She preceded him in death in 2008.

Harvey worked at a car dealership with his father-in-law and brother-in-law in Hanover, Penn. until 1958. He then moved to Fla. and worked for Oldsmobile and Studebaker, Corp. until 1966. He opened his own Studebaker parts and service business until 1971 when he returned to Wisconsin and worked for C&R Olds/Ironside Olds & GMC for 34 years. He retired at age 80.

Harvey loved to play cribbage and spend time with his children, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post 6.

Survivors include children, James (Shari) Haidvogl of Evergreen, CO, Patricia (David) Dietsche of Stevens Point, Suzanne Bacon of Madison, and Judith (John) Zimmerman of Stuart, Fla. He is further survived by nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Reichart of Hanover, Penn. and Margaret Haidvogl of Oshkosh; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Thomas; son-in-law, John Bacon; his parents; brother, Gerald; and sister, LaVerne.
